Wae Rebo (Manggarai Tengah Regency)

The traditional village of Wae Rebo in the district of Manggarai has received the Top Award of Excellence from UNESCO. Wae Rebo is a small, very out of the way village. Located some 1,100 meters above sea level, where the air is cool and the village completely surrounded by panoramic mountains and the dense Todo forest. To get to Wae Rebo, start your trek up the mountain in Denge and see beautiful views on your way to the village. Once you arrive you will be welcomed with a traditional ceremony. Here you can stay the night and enjoy the culture around you.

Bena (Ngada Regency)

Bena, a community that is situated about 16km from Bajawa at the foot of Mount Inerie, is the most famous and also most visited village in the Ngada district. With its impressive stone formations and ancestral shrines, as well as traditional houses, Bena has turned into a signpost for Ngada culture.

Wogo (Ngada Regency)

Lying to the east of Bena, Wogo is another picturesque village which features all the richness of the traditional Ngada culture. The village of Wogo is actually a new comer in the Ngada landscape. It has been inhabited only since 1932, when the inhabitants from the ‘Old Wogo’ decided to leave their original village with their ancestral megaliths behind.

Todo (Manggarai Tengah Regency)

The village of Todo in south-central Manggarai is not only one of the few opportunities to see the traditional ceremonial houses; in the past, Todo was also the center of the Manggaraian kingdom and the home of the royal clan.

Wologai (Ende Regency)

Wologai is one of the few villages in the Ende district with well-maintained houses built in the traditional Lionese architectural style. Throughout the year, there are several ceremonies held in these beautiful buildings. During a big harvest ceremony that usually takes place in August, Wologai people from abroad reunite in their home village and turn it into a very lively spot.

Luba (Ngada Regency)

Luba village is practically right next door to Bena, but visited by fewer people. It’s dramatically located on the slopes of the volcanic Mt. Inerie. There aren't as many locals around during the day and all the kids go to school right next door.

Gurusina (Ngada Regency)

Gurusina is another Ngada village where you can get acquainted with all the wealth of Ngada culture. As it is quite easily accessible by car or motorbike (the road can get bumpy, though), it offers a good alternative to the more popular Bena for visitors who are short in time. You can also spend the night with a family in a traditional house here.

Saga (Ende Regency)

Saga village is one of the traditional villages in Detusoko, Ende district. Saga’s community themselves is a part of Lio tribes which also inhabit the village of Moni, near Kelimutu tricolored lake. Saga is an indigenous village that is not yet as well-known as other indigenous villages in Flores.

Tololela (Ngada Regency)

Tololela village is a traditional village with altitude 650 meter above sea level located in the Manubhara village, about ± 30km from Bajawa. Tololela village is also one of developed traditional village and preferred by travelers who wants to go trekking and experiencing more ‘local’ vibe compare to its famous neighbor, Bena village.

Belaraghi (Ngada Regency)

If you want to experience Ngada culture beyond the more popular Bena and Wogo, and if you are ready to invest a little time and physical effort, you should dare to hike to the extraordinary village of Belaraghi and spend the night in this amazing place.

Nua Bari Watuneso (Maumere Regency)

Have a look the interesting megalithic stone graves in Nua Bari, a traditional village near lovely Paga beach, and hear the mystical stories and local wisdom. Go to Tanjung hill to see the breathtaking view of sunset.

Nggela (Ende Regency)

Nggela is famed for its traditional houses and fine ikat weaving. The woven cloth from Nggela is well-known for its distinct motifs, colors, and high quality. Therefore, the Nggela ikat is sought-after by local and international collectors. If you are looking for a unique Florinese souvenir, Nggela offers you a wide range of beautiful woven products.

Tutubhada (Nage Keo Regency)

Among all traditional villages of Nagekeo District, Tutubadha has become one of the most remarkable villages to visit. It is not only due to the houses that are physically still solid and rich with traditional elements and ornaments, but most importantly due to the preserved culture. Never been quoted in the tourism map of Flores, Tutubadha is known only by a small number of local visitors. Tutubadha can be a good choice for culture enthusiasts wishing to experience the less-known part of central Flores.
